Women who have asymmetric, loose, or enlarged labia often struggle with feeling self-conscious about their body while wearing form fitting clothing or during sexual intimacy with her partner. Labiaplasty is performed to help with labial enlargement, skin laxity, or to create balance for women who have asymmetrical labia. Labiaplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation surgery performed at The Female Pelvic Medicine Institute in North Chesterfield that reshapes a woman’s outer and/or inner labia.
Labiaplasty might be beneficial for a woman who is bothered by the symmetry and shape (big or small) of the labia, looseness of the skin, as well as reconstruction of the area after childbirth or injury. The procedure can focus either on the outer labia major or the inner labia minor. Benefits from this procedure include:
Dr. Guerette will personalize your surgery to meet your unique goals and desired outcome. Your labiaplasty will be conducted under local or general anesthesia. The incisions will be made on the inside surface of the labia and the excess skin area will be removed to create a younger, more symmetrical appearance. Placing the incisions within the natural contours of your body will minimize future signs of surgery or visible scarring. Once the desired look is achieved, Dr. Guerette will close the incisions using sutures.
Many women return to work 4-5 days after undergoing labiaplasty surgery. Exercise and strenuous activities should be avoided for about 4 weeks after the procedure in order to avoid unnecessary complications. As with any major surgery, you will experience some swelling and redness while your body heals.
One of the most common questions Dr. Guerette gets from his labiaplasty patients is, “when will I be able to resume sexual activity after surgery?” Each patient will experience the healing and recovery process slightly differently, but it is recommended to avoid sex for about 4-6 weeks after your labiaplasty.
Labiaplasty can do more than just reshape the labia–it can significantly change a woman’s life. With newfound confidence, a positive body image, and increased comfort, women are finally able to wear what they want, participate in activities, and restore intimacy with their partners.Dr. Guerette has a wide range of experience with aesthetic and advanced gynecology and is committed to ensuring you are comfortable and confident throughout the entire labiaplasty procedure and recovery process.
